I studied with Doug for over a year and a half, taking a break only to shoot a feature I had written and produced thanks to Doug's encouragement and mentoring. I wrapped Wednesday and the next thing on my to-do list is to get back in class for next Wednesday. This man is brilliant, kind and funny. He doesn't blow smoke and he's not touchy-feely, as I've found many acting class teachers to be. He is direct and honest. He tailors his guidance to each individual. After discovering I was a writer, he encouraged me to keep creating content, sometimes assigning me members of class to write for and allowing me to direct their work. He gives you a wide variety of material to work with in class so you're a well-rounded actor, and if class ends early, he will sit and answer any and all entertainment-career-related questions that you have. In addition to scene study, cold reading, etc., he shares different exercises and methods so you can be confident and prepared no matter the circumstance you're working in. He has been instrumental in my development as an actor and a writer and he's a hilarious, likable guy. Had the wrap party for my feature last night and they screened a two minute teaser. I got offered another acting job on the spot. Without Doug Warhit, I'd be sitting on my couch with no confidence, painstakingly going through a process that would have taken me years without his help.

Doug is amazing. You work in every class, he gives you material that is specific to your needs in order to challenge your skills as an actor, and that material is fresh- not the same old dated scenes you've worked on years ago. You can also bring in audition sides, which is helpful not only to you but the rest of the class. Every once in a while, Doug will shake things up and have an audition class where everyone is given a one-liner, or a a small co-star, and we go through everyone's tape in class and discuss what worked and what didn't, and why a particular person would have been booked out of all the others. Its helpful to see what the CDs have to watch when they are auditioning those smaller roles, and how you can make yourself stand out while also serving the material. He encourages you to explore what works for you and what doesn't- there is no pushing one single way to work onto you if it doesn't help you. Classes are on camera in a location you would normally audition in (helpful, you get used to that environment), with decent lighting, and then you take the dvd home to study it- IF you want to and it helps you. There is also an industry night at the end of the month where working CDs, agents and managers see your work. I don't know of any other class that offers this every single month. I particularly enjoyed that I was able to audit the class first and meet with doug for an hour before being placed into a class- he makes sure you're in the right place first. I refer everyone to Doug when I know they're looking for a class.

Doug Warhit is the best!!! He is EXACTLY what I've always wanted to in a teacher which is exactly why I keep working with him and will not stop. I continually get better and better every class and coaching session. I could literally go on and on and on and on... but to sum it up-- I don't think it gets any better than Doug. His class is so much fun and I learn so much. I can't imagine my acting career without him!

Doug Warhit is excellent.I've studied at six places in L.A., and audited around a dozen. Doug is no B.S., with an extremely deadpan sense of humor.Everybody works every class; the first two weeks of the month are cold-readings from contemporary casting sides, the third week is either cold-reading, a scene, or a monologue, depending upon your choice, and the fourth week is a "callback" of one of the weeks of material (usually the third), for an industry guest--usually a casting associate, mid-tier manager, or mid-tier agent (and sometimes two of 'em). If you have an audition or upcoming performance, you can bring in that material instead, and Doug will help you with it during class rather than a cold-read.Doug films you as you work, and if you bring a DVD, you get to take it home and watch your performance. The cost is extremely reasonable (currently $205/month), and it's free to audit. You can start and stop whenever you want; it's a month-to-month class.Unlike other places, you work with Doug straight from the start--there is no sequence of random wannabe actors who teach a required sequence of midrange classes, before you get to work with the resident "guru" after a year or more. It's Doug, period--and he teaches a range of classes from beginning to advanced. He tells it like it is, but nobody is crying unless the scene calls for it. He has no ego or agenda with his students beyond simply helping them to give the best performance possible. He is also extremely accessible--on weekends, during the day, it doesn't matter--if you have an audition, an acting question, or even a major life crisis, Doug is there. He will pick up the phone and he will answer e-mail. He genuinely seems to care about his students; versus the Wizard-of-Oz-like act some teachers pull (after one teacher swept out majestically after an audit I once attended, I caught him hiding in a tiny closet-sized room, I guess from his students).Doug's furthermore a licensed psychotherapist (yup, I actually checked with the state board; he's a certified MFT), so there's that.In short, I would say it's absolutely worth it to attend a free audit--there's absolutely nothing to lose, and you may find that you love the class. If you do, you've got a coach--and if not, you've at least enjoyed an entertaining evening!

I absolutely love Doug's class!! I have been in it for almost a year now and I have signed with a great manager and booked a lead role in a movie since taking his class. He is humorous and makes the class very fun. His coaching is spot on and he does a great job of getting his students to really embody the characters they are playing. You can tell that he really cares about his students and wants the best for them. His class is a great preparation for going into auditions and also putting scenes on tape. I HIGHLY recommend taking lessons from Doug as well as reading his book!!!

Having researched and audited the classes of many of the top acting coaches in LA, Doug Warhit is a rare, wonderfully multi-faceted find. A couple of my favorite things he brings to the table:1) Doug implements in his class and constantly encourages his students to improvise scripted scenes as a means of preparation. I have not yet found this with any other acting coach in LA, some even shy away from melding improvisation with scripted scenes. But I dare say nearly all of his students have found this as an invaluable way to evoke greater spontaneity, confidence, new ideas, and deepen their connection with their characters and other individuals in the scene, and ultimately serving the script/character even better. 2) Doug often has a strong point of view and will unashamedly offer it, but never in a dogmatic, self-serving, egotistical fashion. He wants his students to explore, play, and try different approaches to a character and scene and he'll be the first to admit if he prefers the actor's initial choice to his redirect. And he has a great way of creating a fun environment for all this to happen and keeps everyone involved from beginning to end. 3) Doug implements industry exposure into the class. The last week of every month is when an industry guest joins the class. This could be a casting director, agent, producer, director, manager, and students are free to invite an additional guest as well. This is another facet to Doug’s class that not a lot of other classes offer, and it testifies to Doug’s desire that his students not only do good work, but that they also WORK, and make a career out of doing what they love.4) Lastly, Doug is totally open to students bringing in audition material, material they've written themselves, scenes from plays or films, etc. Like with anything, you get out what you put in. Doug has set a wonderfully simple framework, but there are so many ways you can train, grow, and play within that framework. And it's all on-camera for repeated viewing if you so desire.
